Meet the Athlete: Tamara Jurkiewicz

Posted by Tamara Jurkiewicz @tamarajurkiewicz on Oct 16th 2017

What’s up everybody, hope your all doing well!

I’d like to start off my first blog for Rivalus by introducing myself and telling you all about who I am. Sounds interesting right? Let’s get started.

My name is Tamara Jurkiewicz and I am a 21 years old Motocross athlete from Montreal, Québec. I’m currently a full-time student a McGill University studying in Teaching English as a Second Language and I also coach Figure Skating on the side as well. At this point, your probably asking yourself the following question: “How can she possibly go from doing Motocross to coaching Figure Skating? They’re like two completely opposite sports.” And here’s where my story gets interesting.

My Athlete Background

I’ve always been into sports since a young age. At age 2, my parents registered me into Gymnastics and at age 3 into Figure Skating. They also put me into Swimming at age 7 and Dance at age 9. I was also introduced to Skiing at a young age and to cut the story short, I ended up doing 10 years of Gymnastics, 7 years of Swimming, 13 years of Figure Skating, 1 year of Dance and along the way I also did 2 years of Cheerleading. I learnt how to Snowboard on top of already Skiing, I started Scuba Diving at age 12 and FINALLY yes finally, I started Motocross at age 19. I’ve only been riding for two years now, but man has this sport brought me opportunities and success. I only started racing in Motocross this season (2017) and at my third race ever, I finished second in my class. I am really looking forward to next season and to see what I can bring to the table and hopefully bring back a couple more trophies home.

Fun Fact: I’m only 5 foot tall.

Now that you’ve gotten the chance to know me a bit better, I’d like to take this opportunity to tell you what I wish to do as an athlete here at Rivalus. First of all, I’d like to thank the company for supporting me. Not many women practice the sport of Motocross and having Rivalus believe in me as an athlete means more than you can imagine. Having done a variety of sports over the years, I have learnt a lot when it comes to health, nutrition, stress management, motivation, fear/mind blocks, and so much more. Over the next few months, I will make sure that I fulfill my role as an athlete and to pass on to you my knowledge and experiences, so that hopefully one day I can help you develop as an athlete yourself. Even if you’re just getting started in the world of fitness or you've been training for years, I hope that somewhere along the way I’ll be able to encourage you in some way.

So that’s it for today folks, I hope you’ve enjoyed my introduction as an Athlete of Rivalus. I am really looking forward to telling you all about my interesting stories and what I've learnt along the way.
